Portable or fixed 4G / 5G Wi-Fi modem / router that connect to mobile networks via one or more SIM Cards and can create a Wi-Fi network that can be used simultaneously by dozens of devices such as notebooks, tablets, decoders, IP Cams and Smart TVs which are located in the immediate vicinity.
The devices for Fixed Use, to be installed on the roof or on terraces, can be connected to the LTE / 4G / 5G Base Stations located even at kilometers away thanks to the integrated high gain antenna allowing a high speed data connection otherwise impossible in areas with poor coverage ot without coverage.
The cheapest Wi-Fi modems / routers support the least performing connectivity and Wi-Fi categories even if still sufficient for most applications (even Full HD and 4K video). Normally they connect to 4G networks in category 3-4 (Cat.3-4) with a theoretical maximum speed of 100-150 Mbps in download and 50 Mbps in upload.
The mid-range and high-end models also support Category 5 (300/75 Mbps) and 4G + profiles (LTE Advanced - Cat.6-7-8-etc.) with speeds up to 300-450-600 Mbps in download and 50 -75-100-150 Mbps in upload.
Only “premium” Wi-Fi modems are also compatible with 5G networks for ultra-fast downloads (up to 1.2 / 1.6 Gbps) but at higher costs.
The Wi-Fi standards adopted by 4G / 5G modems / routers also affect data transfer speeds (from mobile to wireless), coverage and connection reliability. The budget models support older standards such as 802.11 b / g / n (Wi-Fi 4) with a maximum download speed of 150 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band alone, often overcrowded but with excellent propagation capabilities ( wide coverage). For better performance, 4G modems with Wi-Fi ac (Wi-Fi 5 - Dual Band up to theoretical 1200 Mbps) compatible with Cat.6 networks (300/50 Mbps) or higher can be used.
5G models almost always support Wi-Fi ax networks (Wi-Fi 6) and, very often, they also offer an Ethernet port for all those devices without Wi-Fi (desktop PC, DTT / SAT decoder) and to extend connectivity “Wired” and “wireless” (Ethernet switch, Wi-Fi access point, etc.).
